George is 8 years more than Christopher and Ford is 2 years younger than Christopher. The sum of their ages is 60. Find the ages
Juli2301 [7.4K]
Let us consider that Christopher is 'x' years old

Age of Christopher =  x

George is 8 years more than Christopher

Age of George = (x + 8)

Ford is 2 years younger than Christopher

Age of Ford = (x - 2)

Now the sum of their ages is 60

∴ x + (x + 8) + (x - 2) = 60
3x + 6 = 60
3x = 60 - 6
3x  = 54
x = 54 ÷ 3
x = 18

Age of Christopher = x = 18 years
Age of George = (x + 8) = 18 + 8 = 26 years
Age of Ford = (x - 2) = 18 - 2 = 16 years

The sum of all their ages = 18 + 26 + 16 = 60 years
