Discover the h: -h + 14 = -22
earnstyle [38]

Answer:

h=36

Step-by-step explanation:

-h + 14 = -22

-h + 14-14 = -22-14 \leftarrow\text {Subtraction Property of Equality}\\\\-h=-36\\\\\frac{-h}{-1} =\frac{-36}{-1} \leftarrow \text {Division Property of Equality}\\\boxed {h=36}

<h3>Extra Note: Why not '-h=36'?</h3>

The reason why I did the division part is because you have to 'undo' the equation until you get a positive variable.  '-h' is the same thing as '-1 * h', so I had to divide it by '-1' to get the final answer.

I got a maths equation which i don't really get how to work out, the question is : solve 4x^2+x-3=0
Maru [420]

The solutions for the given equation 4x^2+x-3=0 are x = -1 and x = 3/4. Using the quadratic formula, the solutions for the given equation are calculated.

<h3>What is the quadratic formula?</h3>

The formula which is used to calculate the roots(solutions) of the quadratic equation in the form ax^2+bx+c=0 is

x = [- b ± \sqrt{b^2-4ac}]/2a

<h3>Calculation:</h3>

The given equation is 4x^2+x-3=0

In comparison with the standard form of quadratic equation ax^2+bx+c=0,

we get, a = 4, b = 1 and c = -3

So, solving the given equation using the quadratic formula,

x = [- b ± \sqrt{b^2-4ac}]/2a

  = [- 1 ± \sqrt{1-4(4)(-3)}]/2(4)

  = [-1 ± \sqrt{49}]/8

  = (-1 ± 7)/8

Thus, x =  (-1 + 7)/8 = 3/4 and x = (-1-7)/8 = -8/8 = -1

Therefore, the solutions of the given equation are x = -1 and x = 3/4.
