Since its humidity levels were almost zero, soil was lifted up by the wind in the form of big sand and dust clouds. The Dust Bowl multiplied the effects of the Great Depression in the zone and caused the greatest displacement of population during a short period of time in United States' history. Three million inhabitants left their farms during 1930's, and more than half a million emigrated to other States, especially to the west.

Specific people involved are Andrew Carnegie who dominated the steel industry and owned J.P Morgan; Alexander Bell who created the telegraph. There's also John D. Rockefeller who greatly influenced the oil industry and Cornelius Vanderbilt who use railroads to connect major cities.
