Answer:
General Guglielmo Pepe was one of the Carbonari leaders of the revolution in Italy in 1820. He was able to revolt against the Crown and briefly controlled a part of Sicily.
Explanation:
General Guglielmo Pepe played an important role in the Italian Revolution of 1820-1821, which was one of a wave of revolutions to hit European countries like Spain and Portugal and Italy in these years. For example, the Spanish people successfully revolted in 1820 over disputes about their Constitution, and this encourages a similar movement in Italy. A regiment in the army of the Two Kingdoms of Sicily mutinied and was able to take part of the Kingdom of the Two Sicilies. They pressed King Ferdinand I for a Constitution but were eventually defeated. Pepe was a member of the Carbonari, an informal network of secret societies that favored revolution in Italy from about 1800 to 1831. Pepe went into exile after the uprising was squelched and his colleagues in the Carbonari were executed or imprisoned.
