Answer:

x-2y=10-------equation 1

3x+y=-12-------equation 2

multiply equation 1 by 3 and subtract eqn 2 by equation 1 then we get,

3x-6y=30

3x+y=-12

(-) (-) (+)

---------------

-7y=42

or, -y= 42÷7

or, y=-6

put the value of y in equation 1

x-2×(-6)=10

or, x+12=10

or x=10-12

or, x = -2

therefore x = -2 and y=-6 ans.

What ere the coordinates of the point on the directed line segment from (-1,7) to (7,7) that partitions the segment into a ratio
djverab [1.8K]

Answer:

(\frac{37}{11},\frac{77}{11} )

Step-by-step explanation:

Given two points are (-1,7) and (7,7).

We are told to find a point which is in between them at a ratio of 6:5.

Formula for calculating a point at distance of ratio m:n is given by

(\frac{mx2+nx1}{m+n} ,\frac{my2+ny1}{m+n} )

where (x1,y1),(x2,y2) are the inital and final points.

(x1,y1)=(-1,7)\\\\(x2,y2)=(7,7)

also m:n=6:5 ,

by substituting all the values we get,

(\frac{6*7+5*-1}{11} ,\frac{6*7+5*7}{11} )

(\frac{37}{11},\frac{77}{11} )

Describe how you could draw a diagram for a problem about finding the total length for two strings, 15 inches long and 7 inches
Varvara68 [4.7K]
Two strings are 15 inches and 7 inches long.

You could draw a diagram that has two rulers (that are longer than 12 inches).

Draw a piece of string that is exactly 15 inches on one ruler.
Draw another piece of string on the other ruler at exactly 7 inches.

Then you can find the total length of the two strings by adding 15 and 7 inches.
15 + 7 = 22

The total length of both the strings is 22 inches. You can draw a ruler and a piece of string on it at 22 inches.
