Emotional response from the audience. Movies pulling at people heart string tend to get more of a reaction from people.
Any other type of reaction. People being scared, lonely, etc.
Also you tend to want to the characters better so they create character arcs.

In the modern age, it depends on who the person is and how they feel, and basically what they believe in
I think maybe it’s all about from the perspective that the apple sees. to the human eye we see a room first, and then see the details, the first thing i saw when looking at this was the apple. it shows the perspective and the things we find more ‘important’ pop out to us first. So although it may seem strange the apple is the focal point.
