The first Continental Congress alerted the colonial mitias to prepare for war in relation to the "Intolerable Acts" approved by the British Parliament. This Act was the one through which the British prepared to punish the colonists for the Boston Tea Party, although the main plan of the Congress was to petition to the King (George III) to halt the enforcement of the Act.
The Knights of Labor declined due to their use of secrecy in
their negotiations with management. Many
used deception to maintain the employment of laborers. Later on their secret methods alarmed many
bishops who later condemned the Knights and led to their decline. Apart from that, many members were Catholic.

President James Monroe has instituted a policy of US withdrawal from Europeans. This was because, according to Monroe, Europe intended to resume the colonization process.
The president's ideology became known as The Monroe Doctrine, according to which "the American continents, by virtue of the free and independent condition they have acquired and preserved, can no longer be considered in future as susceptible to colonization by any European power."
It was in this context that Monroe said his celebrated phrase: America for the Americans.
Important progress was made, such as full development of the decimal place-value system to include decimal fractions, the first systematized study of algebra, and advances in geometry and trigonometry. Arabic works played an important role in the transmission of mathematics to Europe during the 10th to 12th centuries.
