What are the differences between the family structures among the Bari' Indians and Mosuo of China?
aleksklad [387]

Answer: In traditional Mosuo families, brothers and sisters live their whole lives together in the same house. They live with their mothers, and their mothers' brothers and sisters. Households can have three or four generations and dozens of people in one home, all of them related by blood, and none by marriage. Usually, the size of a Mosuo matrilineal family ranges from a dozen people to dozens of people. Traditionally, the Mosuos do not leave their original family upon marriage. From the analysis of ancient stories, it can be concluded that they do so because of the deep affection between brothers and sisters. The Barí, sometimes also called Motilon-Bari, are an indigenous people who live in the Catatumbo River basin in Norte de Santander Department in Colombia in South America and who speak the Barí language. They are descendants of the Tairona culture concentrated in northeastern Colombia and western Venezuela.
