The courage my mother had went with her, and is with her still: rock from New England quarried; now granite in a granite hill.
maxonik [38]
The correct option is  A DESIRE FOR SOMETHING MORE.
From the excerpt given above, it can be seen that the speaker's mother had died leaving her a golden brooch. Even though the speaker cherishes the golden brooch, she is more than ready to exchange it for the rock-like courage of her mother, which she had carried to the grave. The speaker desires something more; she desires the courage of her mother.

In Act II, Scene 2, after he murders Duncan, Macbeth asks, "Will all great Neptune’s ocean wash this blood / Clean from my hand?
fenix001 [56]

It reveals the great depth of Macbeth's guilt, suggesting that all the water in the ocean cannot cleanse him of it.

Macbeth raises this question after he has killed Duncan. Therefore, he figuratively has "blood on his hands". This is a figure of speech that indicates someone is guilty of murder. Water often symbolizes purity or a cleansing. When people are baptized, they are covered in water to symbolize the washing away of sins. In Macbeth's question, he reveals that he may not be cleansed or forgiven for his sin of murder.
