Answer:

<em>The sum of the two solutions to the given equation is 1/3.</em>

Step-by-step explanation:

<u>Nature of Roots of a Second-Degree Equation</u>

Given a quadratic equation:

ax^2 + bx + c = 0

The roots of the equation are:

\displaystyle x_1=\frac{-b+ \sqrt{b^2-4ac}}{2a}

\displaystyle x_2=\frac{-b- \sqrt{b^2-4ac}}{2a}

The sum of the roots is:

\displaystyle x_1+x_2=-\frac{b}{a}

The sum of the roots of a quadratic equation is equal to the negation of the coefficient of the second term, divided by the leading coefficient.

We are given the equation:

3x^2 - x = 4

Rearranging:

3x^2 - x - 4=0

The coefficient b is b=-1, and the leading coefficient is a=3, thus the sum of the roots is:

\displaystyle x_1+x_2=-\frac{-1}{3}

\displaystyle x_1+x_2=\frac{1}{3}

The sum of the two solutions to the given equation is 1/3.

What is the range of the function f(x) = 3x2 + 6x – 9
Svetradugi [14.3K]
I have a solution here however with a slight change in the equation:

<span> f(x)=3x^2-6x+1

My solution is:

</span>The domain is all real numbers--there are no restrictions like a square root or variable in the denominator
<span>
this is a U shape parabola and you want to find the bottom point, it is at the vertex </span>
<span>x=-b/2a =- (-6) /2 (3) =1 </span>
<span>f(1) =3(1)^2 -6(1) +1 =3-6+1 =-2 </span>
<span>the minimum is (1, -2) </span>
<span>so the range is all real numbers >= -2
</span>
By examining my solution, you could just answer the problem on your own! I hope it helps!

Helen [10]

Diana's assessment would likely be persistent.

<u>Explanation:</u>

From the given excerpt, For the first time Diana started speed dating i.e she spends 5 minutes with every partner she meets. This means that she takes a continuous effort to meet and choose the right person.

In that process she likes to meet a man again. She is taking an accurate decision with the help of her own assessment.

From this it can be inferred that the assessment she made is very persistent. That is, she obstinately or firmly continued to meet the person that she would like.

So, it can be concluded that the assessment of Diana would likely be persistent.
