Which sentence in this excerpt from President Richard Nixon's speech "The Great Silent Majority" contains the thesis statement?

The correct answer is: Let us all understand that the question before us is not whether some Americans are for peace and some Americans are against peace. The question at issue is not whether Johnson's war becomes Nixon's war. The great question is: How can we win America’s peace?

 • This sentence contains the thesis statement. The topic is, “How can we win America’s peace?” And how does President Nixon control the ideas of his thesis? First, he says what the question is not, he says that it is not about who is against or in favor of peace, or who started Vietnam War. When Nixon says what the question is not, helps us in being more objective with the topic, he urges not to fall into the misconceptions of the topic and to focus on what really matters: “How can we win America’s peace?” In addition, when Nixon says what the question is not, he is reflecting his opinion, or judgment.

Helga [31]

From the literary point of view, it is a “first person perspective” in the writing. In this passage, the author wants you to feel how he was feeling during that given situation. Hence, the lines of the texts that says”Every move will be deliberate and meticulous, just like that rescue from sophomore year. I’m close enough to see the relief in the fishermen’s faces. I’ve got this.” Pertaining to himself, and describing his experiences in a detailed manner in order for readers to know what he had experienced in the past.

Could someone help me with writing an essay about compassion? Give me examples of when you showed compassion!
ValentinkaMS [17]
Compassion is defined as a feeling of sympathy or sorrow for the misfortune of others.

You can feel compassion because one way or another you have felt what they have felt in their trying times. Even though you don't really know the extent of their pain or suffering, you can imagine what they are going through and you feel for them.

You show compassion to grieving individuals by simply being there for them. You listen to their problems without judgement. You show compassion by being kind to other people and for treating those who are less fortunate with utmost respect and not stripping them of their dignity as a human being.

Which dictionary entry best supports the meaning of the word reconnaissance as used in the excerpt? re·con·nais·sance | ri-ˈkä-n
julia-pushkina [17]

Full question:

Read the adapted excerpt from “NOAA Hurricane Hunters” by NOAA.

In addition to doing research to help scientists understand hurricanes and other kinds of tropical storms, NOAA's P-3s also do storm reconnaissance missions. The main purpose of these missions is to locate the center of the storm and measure central pressure and surface winds around the eye. Information from both research and reconnaissance flights directly contribute to the safety of people living along and visiting the vulnerable Atlantic and Gulf coasts.

Which dictionary entry best supports the meaning of the word reconnaissance as used in the excerpt?

re·con·nais·sance | ri-ˈkä-nə-zən(t)s \ noun

Answer and Explanation:

The dictionary meaning of reconnaissance is to obtain information by way of preliminary survey of a region, usually for military purposes. In the example given above, reconnaissance is used in the context of the first meaning; to gain information, not necessarily for military purposes. In other words, reconnaissance in this case aims to get information for other purposes(not for military), for purposes of understanding storms in a certain region to secure the safety of people in that region.
