Read the following paragraphs. Decide if each has unity. If a paragraph does not have unity, write the sentence or sentences tha

t do not belong.
1. A recording studio does not always make a lot of money by making a recorded. When a record is purchased, only about ten percent of the price goes to the artist. The artist must split that money with managers, producers, arrangers, and any backup musicians. Barry Manilow was once a backup musician for Bette Midler. Nevertheless, because this is a period in history when an album can easily sell ten million copies, huge profits are possible.

2. There are many kinds of microphones used in radio broadcasting today. There are microphones that pickup all the sounds in an area, and others that absorb only the sound of the announcers voice. There are also microphones for interviews, and remote microphones for news reports. Many people rely on the radio for daily news updates.

3. Mimes are trained in the art of portraying characters through movement. They use a combination of acting and dancing, by they never speak any lines. They work without props and in simple costumes. Mimes tell stories that can be understood by anyone from any country because these artists speak through body and facial expressions rather than words.

Andru [333]

This excerpt belongs to Part I of "The Lady of Shalott." The speaker starts by describing a river and the field that surrounds it. People and ships go through the area constantly. We know that travellers pass by on foot, and that many boats travel through the river to get to Camelot, which is the legendary home of King Arthur. However, on the river there is also a small island, and in the island, a small castle. This is the island of Shalott, and in the castle lives the mysterious Lady of Shalott.
