Some possible drawbacks or consequences of calling a period of time a Golden Age is that after that civilizations lived a prosperous period in the economy, society, and politics, the civilization was prone to live another period of destabilization, political turmoil, economic shortages, internal rebellion, and even invasions from other nations.

And the reason is this. The civilization lived that golden age due to the hard work of its people, the wisdom of the rulers, and the firm decisions that allowed the surge of those prosperous times.

However, future generations that did nothing to get that golden age just received the benefits of it and did not work as hard as their ancestors to maintain or increase that prosperity. They took things for granted and the risk was that things changed quickly. And most of the time they did.
