Christopher Columbus was once someone that everyone honored and everyone believed to be the founder of a beloved nation, America. Due to new ideas and knowledge, people’s perspective of Columbus has caused many differences in whether he should even be honored. Many believed that because he didn’t actually find America because Natives were already there and because Amerigo Vespucci was the first European to find it, we shouldn’t have a day dedicated to him. To support this, people also say that because he raped many Native women, assaulted and treated Natives poorly. There are many open discussions about whether he deserves a day for him or even if he’s a good person. Many who once thought he was a great person for “finding America”, now think he is an evil person because of what he did and should not be honored.
