In addition to ending segregation in all branches of the military, executive order 9981 also laid the groundwork for ending segregation in other parts of society.
Executive Order 9981 was enacted in 1948 by President Truman and it abolished discriminative practices in terms of race, color, religion or national origin in the US Armed Forces and ensured equality of treatment and opportunities to everybody.
