Water is one of the most important, if not the most important, ingredient for life on Earth. It is found in abundance on our planet, though it differs in its characteristics from place to place. It can be found anywhere from the oceans, rivers, atmosphere, vegetation, animals, in the ground, as ice, etc. The distribution of it is not equal at all of these mediums where it can be found though.

The vast majority of water is found in Earth's oceans. The oceans contain such a high amount of water that all of the other places/mediums combined have much less. The water in the oceans is saline though, thus it is not water that can be used for drinking except if it is desalinated. Nevertheless, this water has been the one where life emerged on our planet, it influences the conditions in all of the world, and it is still the one that has the most life in it by far.
