The hypotenuse of a 45 45 90 triangle measures 24 inches. what is the length of one leg of the triangle?
frosja888 [35]

Answer:

12\sqrt{2}\ in

Step-by-step explanation:

we know that

A 45\°-45\°-90\° right triangle has two equal legs

Let

x-----> the length side of the leg of the triangle

y------> the length side of the hypotenuse

sin(45\°)=cos(45\°)=\frac{\sqrt{2}}{2}

cos(45\°)=\frac{x}{y}

so

\frac{x}{y}=\frac{\sqrt{2}}{2}

in this problem we have

y=24\ in

substitute the value of y and solve for x

\frac{x}{24}=\frac{\sqrt{2}}{2}

x=24\frac{\sqrt{2}}{2}

x=12\sqrt{2}\ in

Any one know how to find the roots of an equation?
soldier1979 [14.2K]
So what you do is
make into ax^2+bx+c=0 form

add-9/2 to both sides
y^2-2y+9/2=0
now we use the quadratice formula which is
x=\frac{-b+/- \sqrt{b^{2}-4ac} }{2a}

ax^2+bx+c=0
1y^2-2y+9/2
a=1
b=-2
c=9/2
subsitute
x=\frac{-(-2)+/- \sqrt{(-2)^{2}-4(1)(9/2)} }{2(1)}
x=\frac{2+/- \sqrt{4-(36/2)} }{2}
x=\frac{2+/- \sqrt{4-(18)} }{2}
x=\frac{2+/- \sqrt{-14} }{2}
x=\frac{2+/- \sqrt{-14} }{2}
x=1+/- \frac{\sqrt{-14} }{2}
x=1+/- \frac{\sqrt{14} \sqrt{-1}}{2}
x=1+/- \frac{\sqrt{14} i }{2}
x=1+/- \frac{ i \sqrt{14} }{2}

answer is C

Five more than the product of two and a number,
never [62]

Answer:

It was difficult reading the question, as written.  Check my assumptions.

Step-by-step explanation:

"five more than the product of two and a number,

decreased by seven"

---

Let the "number" be a.

We are told "five more than . ." means +5,

"the product of two and a number" means 2a,

"decreased by seven" mean -7

Put the statements together to obtain:

+5+2a-7

Simplify to 2a-2

Evaluate when a = 8:

2a-2

2(8)-2

16-2

= 14

(50 points worth ) A rectangular prism fish tank a length of 5 1/2 in., a width of 7 in., and a height of 2 1/2 in. Use this to
densk [106]
A) What's the volume of this fish tank? Show all work and express your answer as a mixed number in its most simplified form!
 By definition we have that the volume of a rectangular prism is given by:
 V = (w) * (l) * (h)
 Where,
 w: width
 l: long
 h: height
 We then have to replace the values:
 V = (7) * (5.5) * (2.5)
 V = 96.25 in ^ 3
 Equivalently:
 V = 96 1/4 in ^ 3

 B) Could this fish tank hold 100 in³ of water? Answer yes or no, then explain why in one or more sentences.

 No, this fish tank could not hold 100 in³ of water.
 This is because the prism volume (part A) is less than 100 in ^ 3.
 In other words;
 96 1/4 in ^ 3 <100 in ^ 3
