The associative property applies to addition and multiplication. The reason is that for both of these operations you are combining numbers to get a total.

With addition, you are putting values together. It would not matter how you grouped these to put them together. The result would be the same.

For multiplication, you are grouping amounts together to get a total. It would not matter how these were grouped, the result would still be the same.

The vertex angle of an isosceles triangle measures 40°. What is the measure of a base angle?
Katena32 [7]
A triangle has three angles, and their measures add up to 180 degrees.
An isosceles triangle has at least 2 congruent sides, and the angles opposite the congruent sides are congruent.

This triangle has one angle of 40 deg, and two angles that measure the same; call the measure of each base angle x.

x + x + 40 = 180

2x + 40 = 180

2x = 140

x = 70

The base angles measure 70 deg.

How to solve this equation?
Novay_Z [31]

Answer:

x = √(28), or x = 5.292

Step-by-step explanation:

First you distribute the square to the values inside of the parentheses. so it ends up looking like this

5(x^2 - 25) - 9 = 6

add 9 to both sides

so its 5(x^2 - 25) = 15

Then distribute the multiplication of 5 to the contents within the parentheses

so it would be 5x^2 - 125 = 15

add 125 to both sides

you get 5x^2 = 140

divide by 5 on both sides

you get x^2=28

then, take the square root of both sides to reverse the square

√(x^2)=√(28)

and in the end you get x=5.292

but √(28) will probably be fine if your teacher doesn't want u to solve for that kind of stuff.

Louie has 20 more than half as many baseball cards as Gerardo does. Together they have at least 350 cards.
MrRa [10]
In the question it is given that Louie has 20 more than half as many baseball cards as Gerardo does.So,
Let us assume that the number of baseball cards Gerardo has = X
Number of baseball cards that Louie has = 20 + X/2
Also the total number of baseball cards Louie and Gerardo has together is 350.
Then,
X + X/2 + 20 = 350
X + X/2 = 350 - 20
X + X/2 = 330
3X/2 = 330
3X = 330 * 2
3X = 660
X = 660/3
   = 220
Number of baseball cards Gerardo has = 220
Number of cards Louie has = 130.
