Answer:

The ladder is 8 feet high up on the wall.

Step-by-step explanation:

Let the height up of the ladder on the wall be represented by h. The ladder leaning on the wall, wall and distance of the foot of ladder from the wall form a right angled triangle.

So, applying the Pythagoras theorem;

/hyp/^{2} = /adj 1/^{2} + /adj 2/^{2}

/10/^{2} = /6/^{2} + /h/^{2}

100 = 36 + h^{2}

so that,

h^{2} = 100 - 36

   = 64

⇒ h = \sqrt{64}

      = 8 feet

The ladder is 8 feet high up on the wall.

Write each expression as an equivalent expression with a single logarithm. Assume xx, yy, and zz are positive real
Alekssandra [29.7K]

Answer:

\ln(\frac{xx + yy}{zz})^{\frac{1}{2}}

Step-by-step explanation:

Given:

1/2(ln(xx + yy) − ln(zz))

Now,

From the properties of log function,

1)  n × ln(x) = ln(xⁿ)

and,

2)  ln(A) - ln(B) = \ln\frac{A}{B}

applying the properties in the given equation

we get the above equation as:

\frac{1}{2}(\ln\frac{xx + yy}{zz})

( using the property 2 we get (ln(xx + yy) − ln(zz) = \ln\frac{xx + yy}{zz}

or

⇒ \ln(\frac{xx + yy}{zz})^{\frac{1}{2}}    ( using the property 1 i.e n × ln(x) = ln(xⁿ) )

expression as an equivalent expression with a single logarithm is \ln(\frac{xx + yy}{zz})^{\frac{1}{2}}

A water storage tank has the shape of a cylinder with diameter 14 ft. It is mounted so that the circular cross-sections are vert
4vir4ik [10]

Check the picture below.

neverminding for a few seconds the volume of the cylinder, the percentage in the height used by the water will be the same as the percentage of its volume.  We know the total amount or 100% of the height is 14, so what is 11 in percentage?

\begin{array}{ccll} amount&\%\\ \cline{1-2} 14&100\\ 11&x \end{array}\implies \cfrac{14}{11}=\cfrac{100}{x}\implies 14x=1100 \\\\\\ x = \cfrac{1100}{14}\implies x = \cfrac{550}{7}\implies \boxed{x \approx 78.6}
