Problems faced by industrial workers in the late 1800s
Eva8 [605]

Workers faced many problems in American cities in the late 1800s. One problem was overcrowding. Many of the workers lived in very crowded apartment buildings called tenements. This was because they could not afford to pay higher rents for housing. There were a lot of immigrants coming to the country, and they settled in the cities. This led to an oversupply of workers and very crowded conditions in cities.

<span />

Another problem workers faced was very poor working conditions. Because of the surplus of workers and the relatively unskilled work they did, their pay was low. Because many of the jobs required unskilled labor, workers could be easily replaced. Workers conditions were terrible, and the hours were long. There was little the workers could do about these conditions.

When workers tried to unionize, they often were unsuccessful. There were no laws protecting unions. Courts rarely sided with unions in the disputes they had with the business owners. Most strikes ended unsuccessfully. Workers faced an uphill battle in the late 1800s.

Tema [17]

Answer:

She had been unwilling to give up her husband to the state for long periods.

Explanation:

Mercy Otis was an important figure in the Revolution of American History, especially because she was an activist, as she used her writing skills and talent to portray women's voice during a tense political time in the United States. However, since according to Akers, women were only allowed to participate in political issues by private influence on their husbands and sons, he used the fact that Mercy Otis was unwilling to give up her husband to state for long to diminish her role and in a way damage her political image and influence.

What was a significant event for this battle?
34kurt

Answer:

Washington surprised the Hessians on Christmas Eve while they were celebrating.

Explanation:

In order to raise morale and ensure the influx of new militia contingents after a series of defeats in 1776, it was necessary for the American armies to win a victory as soon as possible. General Washington decided to attack the weak British garrison in Trenton, the capital of New Jersey (about 1,200 Hessians). Most of his forces crossed at dawn on December 26, 1776, to the left bank of the Delaware River and, deployed in two columns, began the attack on Trenton. The surprised British garrison surrendered after an hour-long battle. The action near Trenton achieved its goal: the militia of New Jersey and Pennsylvania joined a larger number of Washington forces. This soon enabled, on January 3, 1777, a new victory for Washington at Princeton.
