Media outlets are basically things that provide you with news. Things like a news program on tv, a magazine, a newspaper, or an article on the internet are all media outlets. Its important to have different media outlets instead of just having one because not only will you be able to reach more people, but people will be able to choose what kind of media outlets they use and there will be less bias reporting. It was believed that literacy was a threat to the institution of slavery. First, literacy facilitated knowledge about the successful slave revolution in Haiti of 1791–1804, the end of slavery in the British Empire in 1833, and the writings of abolitionists. Secondly, literacy allowed or potentially allowed slaves better access to information about the Underground Railroad and other routes to freedom.
