At the end of the scene, both Friar Lawrence and the Nurse tell Romeo he is acting like a woman for being so sad and emotional.

Do you think that it is fair to say this? In this time period, why might people have had different beliefs about women?

Answer:

I personally do not think that it was fair for them to say this, either to Romeo or to women. Gender stereotypes were a lot more prevalent in the 13- and 1400s than they are now. People expected more of men than they did of women — they were not supposed to show weakness or sorrow.

In both NewsELA articles read this week, there have been differing perspectives on how leaders would describe nonviolent protest
Ede4ka [16]

This prompt examines the contrast in the strategies deployed by John Lewis and Stokely Carmichael in their non-violent approach to activism.

What is the difference between the approach of John Lewis and that of Stokely Carmichael?

While John Lewis utilized the non-violent strategy of sit-ins and protests, Stokely in the fight against racial prejudice was more upfront.

As the chairman of the Student Nonviolent Coordinating Committee (SNCC), Stockley was intent on the use of all available resources to combat prejudice against blacks.

Stockley was known to have called for "Black Power".
