Answer:

Brian's rate is 15 km/hr

Adrian's rate is 16 km/hr

Step-by-step explanation:

Let r = Brian's rate

   r + 1 = Adrian's rate

4/r = Brian's time

4/(r + 1) = Adrian's time

The difference in times is 1 min = 1/60 hr

\frac{4}{r} - \frac{4}{r + 1} = \frac{1}{60}     LCD = 60r(r + 1)

4(60)(r + 1) - 4(60)r = r(r + 1)

240r + 240 - 240r = r^{2} + r

r^{2} + r - 240 = 0

(r - 15)(r + 16) = 0

r = 15    or   r = -16

Since the rate cannot be negative, Brian's rate is 15 km/hr and Adrian's rate is 16 km/hr

0 hours = $40

1 hours = $75

2 hours =$110

3 hours =$145

4 hours =$180

5 hours =$215

Step-by-step explanation:

C=Cost in dollars,

n=hours.

Calculating Cost for 0 hours

C=35n+40

C=(35\times 0)+40

C=0+40

C=40

Cost for 0 hours=$40

Calculating Cost for 1 hours

C=35n+40

C=(35\times 1)+40

C=35+40

C=75

Cost for 1 hours=$75

Calculating Cost for 2 hours

C=35n+40

C=(35\times 2)+40

C=70+40

C=110

Cost for 2 hours=$110

Calculating Cost for 3 hours

C=35n+40

C=(35\times 3)+40

C=105+40

C=145

Cost for 3 hours=$145

Calculating Cost for 4 hours

C=35n+40

C=(35\times 4)+40

C=140+40

C=180

Cost for 4 hours=$180

Calculating Cost for 5 hours

C=35n+40

C=(35\times 5)+40

C=175+40

C=215

Cost for 5 hours=$215
