Does Narcissus deserve his fate ? Why or why not?
Alex777 [14]

Answer:

Narcissus suffers the same fate to an even greater degree. In his case, he becomes obsessed with his own reflection. While Echo had at least a brief possibility of fulfilling her desire, Narcissus has no chance at all of ever getting what he wants. The best he can do is dunk his head into the water in a futile attempt to kiss himself. The story suggests that if he'd just been able to recognize it was hopeless and walk away, he might have lived a bit longer.

Margarita [4]

The text "What to a slave is the fourth of July" impacts today's society because it reminds us of the struggles of black people to be recognized.

What is a possible thesis for this topic?

A possible thesis is that throughout history black people have struggle to be recognized and accepted and this phenomenon still exists in our society.

What reasons or claims support this?

 • Black people still has struggles to be seen as equal in areas such as law. This is expressed by the author in "and the difficulties to be overcome in getting from the latter to the former, are by no means slight."
 • Even today the 4th of July can remind people equality has not been completely achieved as expressed in "a day that reveals to him... the gross injustice and cruelty"
 • Historical events such as the slave trade still have a great impact on black people and the way they feel "on the way to the slave---markets, where the victims are to be sold like horses, sheep, and swine"

What is one counterclaim?

Even if some people claim this speech is old and due to this, it is not relevant, the speech addresses issues such as equality that still exist today.
