You synthetic division to find P(3) for p(x)=x^4-6x^3-4x^2-6x-2
klio [65]
By the polynomial remainder theorem, the remainder upon dividing p(x) by x-3 will be the value of p(3).

... | 1 ... -6 ... -4 ... -6 .... -2
3. | .. ...  3 ... -9 ... -39 .. -135
--------------------------------------
... | 1 ... -3 ... -13 . -45 .. -137

So you have

\dfrac{x^4-6x^3-4x^2-6x-2}{x-3}=x^3-3x^2-13x-45-\dfrac{137}{x-3}

which means p(3)=-137.

Write an equation in slope-intercept form for the line that satisfies the following condition.passes through (20, 1), parallel t
Dmitrij [34]

Slope-intercept form:  y = mx + b

(m is the slope, b is the y-intercept or the y value when x = 0 --> (0, y) or the point where the line crosses through the y-axis)

For lines to be parallel, they have to have the same slope.

y = 6x + 6    The slope of this line is 6, so the parallel line's slope is also 6.

Now that you know m = 6, substitute/plug it into the equation:

y = mx + b         Plug in 6 for "m" in the equation

y = 6x + b     To find "b", plug in the point (20, 1) into the equation

1 = 6(20) + b

1 = 120 + b       Subtract 120 on both sides to get "b" by itself

1 - 120 = 120 - 120 + b

-119 = b         Now that you know b = -119, plug it into the equation

y = 6x - 119

PLEASE HELP TIMED TEST What is the value of x in the matrix equation below?
Ksivusya [100]

Answer:

x = 1

Step-by-step explanation:

Given the matrix;

-2\left[\begin{array}{ccc}x&-1\\3&5\end{array}\right] + \left[\begin{array}{ccc}3&8\\-1&6\end{array}\right] = \left[\begin{array}{ccc}x&10\\-7&-4\end{array}\right]

Converting to equations

From the first row of each matrices

-2x + 3 = x

Collect the like terms

-2x - x = -3

-3x = -3

x = -3/-3

x = 1

Hence the value of x is 1
