The Supreme Court judge must be appointed by the president and confirmed by the senators. This allows the executive branch (represented by the president) and the legislative branch (represented by senators) to analyze and inspect the judiciary (represented by the appointed judge.)
Senators must vote for or against the candidate nominated by the president. Before that, they must debate, interview and assess the candidate's qualifications.
