I think the symbolism behind "the man with the red sweater" signifies Buck's first true encounter with serious aggression, hence the color, red. Also, that was the first time Buck really had to fend for himself and take a beating.
My favorite subject is definitely lunch. The fulfilment, the warmth, the pleasure, the taste of FOOD! Everything just blends perfectly into a nice little period that's dedicated to just eating.
