America made several changes after the Civil War during the Reconstruction Era. To begin with, former slaves were given rights and taken out from the Slavery practice. In other words, Slavery was abolished as it was considered to be evil. Blacks were given the right to vote and chose representatives. Blacks were even given to work in government offices. They were also considered citizens of America.

Many southerners move to the west in the 1860s with support from the Homestead Act of 1862. Under this Act, land in the West was opened for thousands of American to settle there. People started to move to the West to develop ranch and farm.
