Hitler became famous after leading a successful coup d'etat against the then ruling provisional government during the Great Depression. He soon was able to not only build up the economy through economic reform, but was also able to return the Rhinelands, and other territories that was lost during World War I to Germany, and rebuilt their armies (which, in both instances were against the rules set by the Treaty of Versailles in 1918. He was a great orator and persuader, practicing his speeches, and being able to energize his crowds to support him. He later became infamous because of his actions against the "undesirables", creating labor & death camps around his occupied territories, and murdering innocent people. His actions both of the beginning and later parts of his tenure in office is what made him famous.
