They had ways of getting around that were reliable for them. But the hymns brought them together like their wrestling tradition, it was a coaxing. A way for the missionaries to "incorporate" their traditions into the Christian way and make Christianity look appealing to the people of Mbanta.
I honestly love this book and all it shows from the perspective of the oppressed and colonized people, who were oppressed in their own country.
