Answer:

Which text structure does Machiavelli use in this passage?

✔ compare and contrast

Which idea from the text best illustrates this structure?

✔ the reference to different ruling groups

How does this text structure help the author convey his central idea?

✔ It show how a prince can fail.

(Rest of assignment answers at the bottom.)

Explanation:

Machiavelli uses the Spartans and the Romans as examples of one empire taking over another. He compares and contrasts them by mentioning the different actions they took when they occupied an empire and the different outcomes that resulted in their actions. The sentence in the passage, "The Spartans held Athens and Thebes, establishing there an oligarchy: nevertheless they lost them" shows how a prince can fail. He also mentions that the Romans held Greece the same way the Spartans did, and the Romans failed, just like the Spartans.

ryzh [129]

Answer:

This phenomenon is better explained by mass hysteria

Explanation:

Mass hysteria is a phenomenon whereby false information rapidly permeates among many people in the society or environment as a result of suspicion, rumors and fears caused by environmental, political, or other types of unfortunate incidences. In many instances, whenever there is mass hysteria, there is also a collective illusion about threats that don’t actually exist. The term “mass hysteria”—associated with masses of people—is also known by other names such as group hysteria, collective hysteria, mass psychogenic illness, or collective obsessional behavior.
