Answer:

Which text structure does Machiavelli use in this passage?

✔ compare and contrast

Which idea from the text best illustrates this structure?

✔ the reference to different ruling groups

How does this text structure help the author convey his central idea?

✔ It show how a prince can fail.

(Rest of assignment answers at the bottom.)

Explanation:

Machiavelli uses the Spartans and the Romans as examples of one empire taking over another. He compares and contrasts them by mentioning the different actions they took when they occupied an empire and the different outcomes that resulted in their actions. The sentence in the passage, "The Spartans held Athens and Thebes, establishing there an oligarchy: nevertheless they lost them" shows how a prince can fail. He also mentions that the Romans held Greece the same way the Spartans did, and the Romans failed, just like the Spartans.

How are the Games used to maintain control over the districts? Conversely, how are the Games used to keep the Capitol happy and
denis23 [38]

Answer:

In order to live so large, the denizens of the Capitol maintain a tight control over the slave-laborers in the Districts. They do this through force and propaganda, and of course through the annual Hunger Games ritual, which pits children against children in a massive, televised arena, in a fight to the death.

We don't need the Nazis to destroy us. We are destroying ourselves, what does he mean by this
NARA [144]

This is from the Diary of Anne Frank. Mr. Frank is the one who says this line. The Jews in hiding have been fighting over food. Because of the German forces raiding farms and taking most of the food for the soldiers, there is very little food to around. It's even harder for those in hiding to get food. Mr. Frank sees the fighting over the food as a way the Jews are destroying themselves. They cannot be divisive if they want to survive. If they are at war with each other inside of their hideaway, they'll eventually destroy themselves, the Nazis won't get the chance.
