En La magnitud de la tragedia nos encontraremos a un transportista consigue finalmente salir con la vedette del teatro donde trabaja. Durante la cena bebe mucho más de lo recomendable. Este es el inicio de la magnitud de la tragedia, una novela sobre el amor, el odio la soledad, el paso inapelable del tiempo y la inevitabilidad de la muerte. Las ambiciones y las enfermedades desmesuradamente expresionistas de los personajes son una caricatura grotesca y deshumanizada de los deseos y las pasiones cotidianas. A partir de una estructura sobria y densa, Monzó teje -en clave de comedia- una alegoría vigorosa del desconcierto absoluto del hombre contemporáneo.
