During the Great Depression, living conditions were much worse than today. The Great Depression was the worst economic contraction in U.S. history.

Explanation:

Unemployment reached 25%, over half of people were poor (with many more being at risk of slipping back to poverty), and bankruptcies were a common occurrence, both in industry and agriculture.

One similarity between the living conditions of today and those of the great depression is that credit is still at the heart of the economic system, and almost every household in the United States has some form of debt. Notwithstanding, living conditions today are much much better than they were in the Great Depression.
