<span>During the Revolution the united colonies did not import new slaves as part of the embargo of English products. Following the revolution the international slave trade was continued by certain southern states and new slaves were brought in especially by South Carolina and Georgia. These slaves were vital to the agrarian economy of the south with its labor intensive farming.</span>
Germany lost Alsace-Lorraine to France permanently, and it lost the Saar Basin for 15 years (until it voted to rejoin Germany in 1935).
One major difference was the fact that more countries got in on the expansion. Germany and Belgium are a great example of that. The two countries were not really a part of the early expansions whereas they were from 1750 to 1914.
The battle of Saratoga led to a partnership with the French. By winning this battle, the colonists proved that they could stand their ground and even beat the British.
