Poverty is associated with a host of health risks, including elevated rates of heart disease, diabetes, hypertension, cancer, infant mortality, mental illness, undernutrition, lead poisoning, asthma, and dental problems.
The elimination in poverty is important because poverty actively tarnishes people's ability to do well in academics and puts their future in jeopardy. Someone who is poor won't have access to the same materials as you and I. They won't have access to a computer past library's closing time. They won't be able to finish a great deal of assignments, academics, and schoolwork and thus affects their future negatively.
