Answer:

Yes, I think it was the best thing to do. When people spend money on things they tend to appreciate their importance. Paying for carryout plastic and paper disposable bags would help people realize the danger extensive use of these bags have on the environment.

Explanation:

Anacostia River and Clean Up Act of 2009 was made with the idea of charging 5 cents for customers who do not bring their own disposable bags. This idea was accepted and signed into law by Washington DC.

This tax was the best thing to do as it would help people to become more wary and conscious of carelessly using disposable bags that damage the environment.

Answer:

The meaning of word 'compensation' is an act of making amendments, for instance with money, in return of a service.

Explanation:

'The Monkey's Paw' is a short story written by W. W. Jacobs. The story is about a magical monkey paw presented by White's guests to them. The story centers around the theme the consequences of trying to rule out fate.

In paragraph 93, the word 'compensation' means <u>an act of making amendment in return of a service provided</u>, sometimes these amendments are made with money.

The context clue that the author has left in the text for the readers to understand the meaning of the word is in the previous information provided in the same sentence.

'<em>They admit no liability at all, </em><u><em>but in consideration of your son’s services they wish to present you with a certain amount of money</em></u><em> as compensation.'</em>

Thus compensation, a sum of money, was presented to Mr and Mrs White in return of the service he provided to his company.

A preposition is a word or institution of phrases used before a noun, pronoun, or noun word to reveal direction, time, place, vicinity, spatial relationships, or to introduce an object. a few examples of prepositions are phrases like "in," "at," "on," "of," and "to." Prepositions in English are noticeably idiomatic.

Prepositions and postpositions, collectively known as adpositions, are a class of words used to express spatial or temporal members of the family or mark diverse semantic roles. A preposition or postposition normally combines with a noun word, this being called its supplement, or every now and then object.

The five sorts of prepositions are simple, double, compound, participle, and phrase prepositions. Prepositional phrases incorporate a preposition plus a noun or pronoun.
