As the Civil War dragged on, the North was in better shape to win than the South because of several factors.

First of all, the economy of the North was stronger that the South's. The North had an industrial and commercial based economy, while the South relied very much on agriculture and raw materials. Therefore, the North was capable of produce weapons in a much shorter time than the South, as this was not as industrialized as the North,

Another cause was the amount of people in each side. The North had a much bigger population than the South. In addition, many South inhabitants were slaves. Therefore, the North had a bigger potential army than the South and, in fact, a stronger army than it.
