Anti-federalists were members of a political entity that believed that a strong federal government was bad for society. These fears were based on America's experience as colonies while under the control of the British. Instead, the Anti-federalists believed that state governments should have more power. This is exactly why the Anti-federalists did not want the Constitution.


In comparison to the Articles of Confederation, the new US Constitution would give the federal government significantly more power. This worried the anti-federalists, as they did not want a repeat of what happened when America was under the control of Great Britain.
