Which two lines of text in this excerpt from William Dean Howells's "Editha" demonstrate the author’s opposition to conventional
Debora [2.8K]

Answer:

"You just expected him to kill someone else, some of those foreigners, that weren't there because they had any say about it, but because they had to be there, poor wretches—conscripts, or whatever they call 'em"

These lines are a manifestation of author's strong opposition to the traditional ways of showing patriotism, showing empathy towards the poor and helpless foreigners who could not do anything and were likely to be killed.

The tone of the story is

D. None of the above

The reason why this would be the answer is because tone is how the author expresses their attitude throughout the story. There is no option that relates to this, so the answer would be D.

I would say D. because C. wouldn't be very reliable, a website anyone can say and put on it what they want, same with A. a newspaper. I would personally trust a person more than a website or news paper
