When you don't use your muscles, they start to kind of chill out and get weaker in this case. So when you break your leg, and the doctor tells you not to put pressure on it, it is so that the bone can heal. But while your bone heals, the muscles in your leg are not able to move or do very much of anything because you can't put any pressure on them. So that is why when you take the cast off, you have to ease back into the regular motion in your leg that you had before.
