Los países donde se concentra una mayor densidad de población se encuentran en el continente asiático, China, India, Bangladesh, Japón y Birmania, en Europa, Países Bajos, Gran Bretaña, Francia, Alemania, Italia y en América del Norte la costa noreste.

Existen una serie de espacios, en América del Sur y África, donde hay zonas muy determinadas con una alta densidad de población, como el litoral atlántico de Brasil y la zona central de México, el valle del Nilo en Egipto y la zona litoral delMagreb en África, junto a espacios de transición escasamente poblados, como los países de centro África, Oceanía y determinadas zonas de América del Sur.

Junto a estos espacios nos encontramos con los grandes vacíos demográficos que se sitúan en las tierras desérticas, áridas, áreas montañosas y zonas frías del planeta. Esta escasa densidad concentra cerca de un 2% de la población mundial.
