Explain the spirit and meaning of the Manifest Destiny that inspired American expansionism in the 1840s.
kari74 [83]

The Manifest Destiny was a phrase coined in 1845. It expressed the spirit and meaning that United States was destined by God and by its history, to expand its dominion and spread democracy and capitalism across the entire North American continent so as to get as much land as possible. As a result,  millions of Americans began to migrate westward in search of new lands as well as opportunities.

Explain the long-term historical factors that moved america toward independence from britain.
barxatty [35]
There were several factors that moved America towards independence from Britain. They are as followed:

1) The development of an American culture- Even though the colonists were still part of Great Britain during the 18th century, many of these individuals were natives of the colonies and had never even been to Great Britain before. This is a huge transformation from when settlers came here originally to find freedom from religious persecution during the early 16th and17th centuries.

2) Colonists being forced to into wars they did not want to fight in- The British army was constantly fighting with other European powers like France in North America. This resulted in colonists being part of wars they did not want to be in (like the French and Indian War).

Lera25 [3.4K]
For the Louisiana purchase question, it more than doubled the size of the united states. As for the second question I believe the answer would be "Thomas Jefferson was eager to explore the west to ensure the survival and prosperity of the United States"
