History

Slavery existed in the United States even before it gained its independence. The founders included several provisions in the Constitution to protect slavery. Presidents before Abraham Lincoln were slaveholders, in exception of George Washington. Politicians who were slaveholders or have interests in slavery held great power in the U.S Congress, and they fought long and hard to preserve the institution of slavery in the United States until the Civil War.

Founded the American Red Cross and revolutionized first aid and medical procedures during the Civil War. When the Civil War broke out, she was one of the first volunteers to show up at a Washington infirmary to tend to wounded soldiers.

Pneumonia, typhus, diarrhea/dysentery, and malaria were the main diseases. Overall, two-thirds of the deaths of some 660,000 soldiers were due to uncontrolled infectious diseases, which played a major role in bringing several major military operations to a halt.

The American Civil War was a united States civil war between the United States and the confederate states of America. A major cause of the war was the status of slavery, particularly its expansion into the territories acquired as a result of the Louisiana Purchase and the Mexican-American war.

What was the importance of the Louisiana Purchase?
Nina [5.8K]

Answer:

It gave the United States control of the port of New Orleans for trade.

Explanation:

The Lousiana Purchase was important because New Orleans is located at the mouth of the Mississippi River that at that time was the main highway of trade and commerce for the US. When the French took over New Orleans from the Spanish they revoked the “right to deposit” that allowed the Americans to use the Port.

With the purchase, the US acquired approximately 827 thousand square miles of land for 15 million dollars. It doubled the size of the US, removed threats of French of blocking US trade, added agricultural power to the US.

We should raise taxes on the richest Americans to pay for the things our country needs.
ki77a [65]

This is something where the answer will depend on which side you pick. So you have a choice on what to do. Here are two viewpoints.

---------------

In favor:

I agree that we should raise taxes on the wealthiest people in the country because they can afford to pay them. Their lifestyle won't be affected too much compared to someone who is struggling to put food on the table, pay rent, or pay for health insurance. Wealthy Americans take advantage of various infrastructure everyday and possibly don't realize it, so it makes sense to have them pay their fair share. With the wealthy contributing more, it gives the lower class workers a more fair share to get a better foot hold and have a higher standard of living. The more people with a higher standard of living, the better the country off is as a whole.

---------------

Against:

I don't agree that we should raise taxes on wealthy Americans. Higher taxes discourages people from earning money since those in a higher tax bracket are going to pay a higher rate. This unintended consequence pushes people to stay in a lower bracket and not earn their full potential. Also, higher taxes chases people away to lower/no tax locations. In a sense, it's like pursuing the path of least resistance. Even if the tax money was collected, it is likely to be spent in places where it shouldn't possibly due to corruption or incompetence.

---------------

Of course these are just basic outlines to help you get started when it comes to writing your response. Feel free to add or take away anything that fits your style.
