The total number of all possible options is 40 (17 + 3 + 8 + 12) and number of options that fit the description of blue or large is 28 ( 17 + 3 + 8). Probability is represented as the number of desired options over the number of total options. This means the probability of a blue or large is 28 / 40 = 7 / 10.

Im confused on this whole math problem
katen-ka-za [31]
I find the problem confusing because it forces a certain sequence of thought process, and I find I get way beyond these questions and answers rather quickly. I would start with the equation of part B, having already recognized the conversions of percent to decimal and the need to make the acid quantities add up. Doing the problem a different way gets you to the answer in part C without any of these "steps," so going back and trying to fill in the "steps" seems awkward, at best.

Perhaps the attachment here helps.

What's the GCF of 20 and 30
Novay_Z [31]

The preferred technique is to factor each number then multiply all common factors together to find the greatest common factor.

Explanation:

First factor 20 down to its prime factors.

2×2×5

Second factor 30 down to its prime factors

2×3×5

The common factors are 2 and 5.

The greatest common factor is 2×5=10

There are shortcuts that often work however

20 can be easily factored into 2×10 while
30 can be easily factored into 3×10

10 can then be easily be seen as the greatest common factor.
