The first influence of the American Constitution on national constitutions was felt in the 1791 documents of Poland and France. Poland adopted its first written constitution in the spring of 1791; France followed with its first written constitution later that year and went through four constitutions in the 1790s alone. It was to create a government with enough power to act on a national level, but without so much power that fundamental rights would be at risk.
