Answer:

A rock.

Explanation:

Eugenia Collier's short story "Marigolds," tells the story of a young girl and her family struggling to survive amidst the racist discrimination against the blacks. The story deals with themes of growing up, racism, acceptance, and understanding one's identity.

Lizabeth recalls how one night her father was so frustrated at being unable to provide enough for his family. He felt bad that his wife had to suffer and do more work while he feels helpless in not getting any job. That night, he cried while his wife consoled him. And it was at that moment that Lizabeth recalls how his father, <em>"who was the rock on which the family had been built, was sobbing like the tiniest child."</em>

Thus, Lizabeth compares her father to a rock.

What is a significant event for two bit Mathews in the outsiders
marin [14]

Answer: 1. In chapter 1, Ponyboy gets jumped by a group of Socs while he is walking home from the movies. Fortunately, several Greasers come to his aid and the Socs scatter. Two-Bit is one of the gang members to arrive at the scene and attempts to lift Pony's spirits by telling him, "Nice cut, too. Makes you look tough" (Hinton, 11).

2. Two-Bit is with Ponyboy buying Cokes at the Tasty Freeze when Randy Adderson asks to speak to Pony before the rumble. Two-Bit makes sure that Randy doesn't attempt to harm Ponyboy while he speaks to him inside his car about Bob's death and not attending the rumble.

3. In chapter 8, Two-Bit goes with Ponyboy to visit Johnny and Dally in the hospital. During their visit, Two-Bit witnesses Johnny in critical condition and goes to the drugstore to buy him a copy of Gone with the Wind. After visiting Johnny, Two-Bit sees Dally and gives Dally his prized switchblade without hesitating.

4. Two-Bit is involved in the rumble against the Socs that takes place in chapter 9 and is the person who yells, "They're running! . . . Look at the dirty --- run" (Hinton, 123). After the Socs flee the scene, Ponyboy notices that Two-Bit has a deep gash down the side of his face and recalls seeing Two-Bit's hand gushing blood.

5. In chapter 10, Two-Bit and the other gang members are lounging around at Darry's home when Ponyboy enters and tells them that Johnny died. He then mentions that Dally ran out of the hospital and Two-Bit comments, "So he finally broke . . . So even Dally has a breaking point" (Hinton, 130). The gang then races after Dally and Two-Bit is there to witness the police shoot and kill their friend after Dally pulls out his unloaded pistol.
