Answer:

Short summary of the short story "Lamb to the Slaughter" by Roald Dahl.

Explanation:

Roald Dahl's "Lamb to the Slaughter," tells the story of Mary Maloney and how she cleverly hid and escaped from being convicted of killing her husband.

At the start of the story, a pregnant Mary Maloney is seen waiting for her policeman husband Patrick Maloney. But what she didn't know is that he is going to ask her for a divorce. So, once he did that, she couldn't feel anything, but she blankly went ahead and prepared dinner for him.

Taking out the leg of lamb that she had planned to serve for dinner, she hit him so hard that he died. But that didn't stop her. She instead put the lamb in the oven, went to the grocery shop, and made purchases, acting as if everything is alright.

Then, on reaching home, she 'acted' shocked and called the police, reporting that someone had killed her husband. While the policemen are investigating the crime scene, trying to find the murder weapon, Mary 'requested' them to eat supper, serving them the lamb in the oven. This way, she not only served the men dinner but also got rid of the murder weapon.

Read the passage below from “Marigolds” and answer question. Miss Lottie’s house was the most ramshackle of all our ramshackle h
liraira [26]

Answer: The right answer is "Miss Lottie was one of the poorest people in the neighborhood."

Explanation: Since in this passage there are still no references to the character of Miss Lottie, it is not yet possible to infer that she was an outcast who did not take care of her home, as she truly was. In addition, it cannot be inferred that she lived alone (which she didn't) or that she wished she could afford a better house. The description of the house, however, does reveal that hers was one of the most rundown homes in an already extremely poor neighborhood, since it was not properly maintained.
