On 18 August, 1846 in Santa Fe
Stephen Kearny captured Santa Fe, without using firearms (guns, rifles, etc...). He did this as part of the Kearny expedition. During this time he ordered his men to help travelers from the Oregon Trail across the Great Plains, to avoid getting attacked by Native Americans.
