One of the earliest examples of this was the use of perspective in oil paintings. This was a way of showing space, depth, and distance in the picture. It made the painting look more realistic. The Renaissance began in Italy, the birthplace of the Roman Empire. It is nearly impossible to identify all of the reasons why the Renaissance began in Italy, but three important causes were money, disease, and historic architecture.
