They believed the spirit of the dead person would visit the body in bird form and needed to be able to recognize its body.


★the pharaoh was​ believed to have "ka" which was basically eternal life, and the body had to be kept in good condition so the pharaoh could recognize himself to visit and watch over the kingdom he used to rule
